Turtles for Charity

When my friend Vicki told me I should cut out a practice turtle before I started my Hawaiian Appliqué Bed Quilt, I knew it was the perfect opportunity to make something for Project Linus.  Did you know Project Linus is participating in Disney's Give a Day Get a Day Program?  Well they are, and while Jessica is considered to young to participate, I thought I'd make a quilt to send anyway.

These turtles are machine appliqué, my first attempts at using Wonder Under. I love how beautifully these blocks are coming together. I have enough of these fabrics to make a total of three, so I'll be adding something different to make the quilt about 45"x60".

After doing plenty of research I found that I could try this as a quilt as you go. I did that once with the Bargello, and really didn't like the process. The batting kept scratching at my arms, but this is a fully layered block before you start, so I figured I'd give it a go. The left is the back and the right is the top.

I love how the turtles have come out including how they look on the back. The applique quilting has created a wonderful design on the back mirroring the front. I'm looking forward to seeing how they are going to look with the actual fabrics that you have selected for this project.

Oh how cute are they? Don't you just love wonder under? I haven't done the quilt as you go way yet...but am curious. Great job!

So you'll really end up with a reversible quilt? What a great idea.
